Mexican night

Tonight we had a double whammy of Mexican appetizer dishes from Better Homes & Gardens.

In the foreground is the guacamole, which is simply avocados, onions, lemon, and salt. I like the onions without the typical tomatoes, so this was a hit with me.

Next, in the skillet, is the chili con queso, which is basically nacho cheese dip similar to what you can make with Velveeta. To make this version, you sautee onions, tomatoes, and canned chili peppers, then mix in cheese.

The final dish, in the glass pie dish in the background, is not from Better Homes & Gardens, but from a friend's Christmas party. You layer low-fat cream cheese, turkey chili, and cheese in a pie dish and heat it at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. Mmm.

Anyway we had all these dips with the good chips in the green bag, and it was fun to mix them up. How did they fare?

Dave liked the chili con queso best, but it was a little stringy for me. I was actually surprised how much I liked it, considering how much onion and tomato is in it. But I am always a fan of guac, and we both liked the onion-y flavor of both dips.

So, that's a third down - seven out of twenty-one!
