Cocoa ripple ring

I was having a friend over for brunch today, so I decided to try one of my several remaining coffee cake recipes. Today's was cocoa ripple ring.

This is a two-egg coffee cake recipe with a layer of cocoa and walnuts in the middle. Actually, it's supposed to be like this: batter, cocoa, batter, cocoa, batter. But I didn't read it correctly. Still, it turned out pretty well:


It was a little bit dry, but on my second go-around, I ate it with a spread of cinnamon honey butter and it went down a little easier. (But what doesn't go down easier with cinnamon honey butter?) I still prefer the applesauce coffee cake, and this one didn't knock that one off of its coffee cake pedestal.
